Interior Designer

Indianapolis, IN 46143 • Full-Time

Salary Range:  $56,000 - $70,000 year

Position Overview

As an interior designer, you love the design of homes and you probably imagined yourself getting to work with homeowners like you see on TV. Unfortunately, most entry leveinterior design jobs put you behind a desk making CAD drawings all day, or worse, in a retail store making $16/hr selling furniture. We believe that interior designers are rock stars that should be making great money and living a life that they love; and as surprising as this may sound, you can be that with a specialization in paint and color.

If you have ever dreamed of becoming an independent interior designer but have been worried about going out on business alone, this opportunity is perfect for you! We give you the tools to succeed as a designer while giving you the administrative backing and training that you get from working at a firm. You'll be able to build your personal brand as a designer, cultivate a book of business of your own, and have complete control of your schedule—without having to fuss with all the business stuff. As an employee of our company we take care of all the admin, letting you focus on building your career as a designer.

Business Overview

Every year 72% of U.S. households undertake some home improvement project, with interior painting taking the lead with 1 in 3 houses getting painted last year. The challenge for homeowners is picking the color that's going to make a difference in helping them love their home or hate it. In fact, 50% of people don't paint because they are overwhelmed by too many color choices. At Craftsman Painter, we help homeowners paint their home with an eye focused on great design; and we are looking for interior designers like you to find these people in drastic need of a home makeover and help them choose color and plan their painting project.

Skills & Responsibilities

We are looking for vibrant personalities with a design background to join the development of a new Craftsman Painter location. As an Interior Designer for Craftsman Painter, you will focus on helping homeowners and businesses select paint products and colors for their painting renovation. This role is ideal for designers who like working with clients and building their book of business more than they like working in CAD all day. As a designer, you'll need a great eye for color, and enough marketing and sales experience to promote and sell products and services. You will be the primary driver of new business.

Desired Experience

This is very much a people first role and so experience building a social network, working with clients, consulting, and planning are essential to succeed. We want to help you build your personal brand as a designer and create a following around your specialization in color and paint. Educational background in Interior Design and current NCIDQ licensure are required.

About Craftsman Painter

Craftsman Painter is a brand new trade startup launching in your area; focusing on Interior & Cabinet painting for residential and commercial renovations. Our number one desire is to make a difference in the lives of our clients, our community of craftsmen and designers, and in our local neighborhoods; all through paint and color. We know how hard it can be to start and run a business, especially as an independent interior designer, and we want to provide you with resources to build a beautiful life. With industry leading sales training, done for you branding, and continuous coaching, you'll be able to take your knowledge and experience in design and become a color celebrity in your local area.

Benefits

When we say you aren't alone here, we mean it. At Craftsman Painter, you'll join a virtual community ready to help you take your practice to the next level. Not only this, but unlike a franchise or certification group, you'll be fully employed with benefits like healthcare and 401(k). You can even qualify for our FAVR vehicle reimbursement program to receive help with gas, insurance and maintenance.

Compensation

Similar to what you are used to as an independent designer, your compensation will be based on your book of business. We offer a competitive commission rate on the sale of services and product. You can earn between 7-10% commission on the sale of painting services and paint products sold. You'll also keep the full amount of any additional design services you offer as a designer. However, when you specialize in painting, you'll find that the sales volume of working within a niche is the fastest path to a six figure income as a designer. Earners who sell over $1 million in painting services can qualify for a higher tier commission rate of 25%.

Time Expectations

For most designers, this position will start off as a side hustle and grow to a full-time position. With our flexible work from home policy when you are not in appointments, you can build this job around your schedule. Great for working moms that need to put family first but also great for ambitious career designers that are ready to put some real money in the bank. On a day-to-day basis you will build your network, meet with referral partners for 1-1s and coffee dates, and work with clients on helping them pick colors and paint products. You'll also be trained in estimating costs for labor and work with our team of Craftsman Painters to get the services completed.

We think you'll love working with our Craftsman Painters and we hope you apply today.
